British metalcore band Bring Me The Horizon brought their “American Dream Tour” to San Francisco’s Warfield Theater for a sold out show. With support from Of Mice & Men, letlive and Issues, it was no surprise that the kids queued up early and the line wound its way down Market Street, around the corner, and as far down Turk as one could see … even after the doors had already been opened for 20 minutes.
Issues kicked things of with a relatively-early 7pm set time. Not that the crammed floor needed any encouragement, but vocalist Michael Bohn fired up the crowd while his crew sprayed them down with water which only seemed to stoke the flames. Next up, L.A.’s letlive. which absolutely blew the roof off of the Warfield as frontman Jason Butler doused himself and the stage with water before proceeding to slip, slide and writhe all over it. These guys commanded attention and were truly the most physical band of the night. Of Mice & Men took the stage at 8:30 pm to a shrill squeal from the ladies in the audience and promptly ignited the floor with what ended up being the largest (and longest) pit of the night.
The stage crew kept things moving along smoothly, clearing the stage in time for headliners Bring Me The Horizon to take the stage a few minutes early. The Warfield went absolutely nuts as the band took the stage followed by their frontman. Breaking into “Can You Feel My Heart,” Sykes’ vocals were nearly drowned out by the audience as they sang along. And as if the crowd wasn’t already in a frenzy, cannons blasted black confetti (the plasticy kind that’ll have you walking around with it stuck to your face without knowing it) onto the crowd, only later to be out-done by squirts of CO2 that rained ice across the front row.
In spite of being admittedly under the weather, Oli used every inch of the stage and his gravely speaking voice hidden by his roaring screams. I’m sure that if he hadn’t said anything, no one would have noticed and, if they did … it really wouldn’t have mattered. This was clearly a night where the audience and the bands fed off each other and nothing was going to break that spell. Delivering a full set, BMTH wrapped up their 1 hour, 15 minute performance with “Sleepwalking” for the encore.
Unfortunately most of the remaining dates on the American Dream Tour are sold out, but maybe you’ll get luck. Check out the remaining dates here.
