Passion Pit

Local Bay Area radio station Live 105 spared no effort in pulling off their annual holiday concert with two “Not So Silent” nights of music at Oakland’s Oracle Arena which had the capacity crowd packed to the rafters.

Digital Diversion joined in on the holiday festivites for the second night which kicked off with Imagine Dragons which featured frontman Dan Reynolds alternating between his mic and a giant bass drum, casually tossing his drums sticks in all directions much to the delight of some lucky ladies in the front row.

By the time Grouplove hit the stage, the Arena was beyond-stuffed … the kids clearly there to see all that NSSN had to offer. A bleached-blond Christian Zucconi kicked things off with clear fan-favorite “Itchin On A Photograph,” as Hannah Hooper spun about center-stage. By all accounts Grouplove delivered one of the highlights of the night.

Tegan and Sara were up next and clearly had their share of fans in the audience. Tegan seemed a bit antsy (maybe feeling a little subconscious in that lion tshirt) but that didn’t seem to detract from the performance or the audience response to their set.

Next up, Passion Pit. Despite the relatively dim lighting, the upbeat “Take A Walk” kept the energy up as frontman Michael Angelakos prowled the stage from side to side.

M83 brought a little more production to the stage in the form of dim lighting and strobes to compliment the effects-laden electronica and general dark vibe of their music.

It is hard to imagine that anyone walked away disappointed from over six hours of enterainment which was capped-off by a full 90+ minute headlining set by the Killers (who didn’t want their pictures taken) and punctuated with cannons showering the crowd with confetti.
